VFW Post 5040 has two large halls used to hold meetings, parties, rent out, etc. These are commonly referred to as the "Upper" and "Lower" meeting halls, but they actually have a name associated with them.

The upper meeting hall was named Wilkerson Hall and can hold 250 people when used for large festivities such as weddings. The lower meeting hall was named Thiede Hall and can hold 225 people. Each has a stage area. In years past, the VFW held so many events that at times both the upper and lower hall were used at the same time, different events.

Today, a wide range of local organizations and companies inquire and rent out these halls to hold activities in. If you would like to inquire about rental options and prices, please contact the VFW at (815)-338-5040.

The lower meeting hall was named Thiede Hall February 18, 2002, in honor of Marge and Joe Thiede who devoted much of their lives to VFW Post 5040. Joe was a WWII Veteran, Charter Member, twice Post Commander, and Quarter Master for several years. Marge has been a Post Auxiliary member since 1965 and was Treasurer for several years.

On June 17, 2002 the upper meeting hall was named Wilkerson Hall in honor of Maynard Wilkerson, who, from 1955 to 1974, with the assistance of Roy Stackhouse, Bill Mansfield, Bob Behler, LaVern Emricson, Ken Kerns, and the Post Commanders and Auxiliary Presidents and many other Post 5040 and Auxiliary members, celebrated those 20 V-J Days by organizing Parades and Pageants of Drums that brought thousands of people to Woodstock and fame to the City and Post 5040.
